How the US eBay fee calculation works

This calculator targets US individual sellers without an eBay Store subscription, with a simplified selection of common categories. eBay fee rates change by product category, account, and selling conditions. Fees for cars, certain high-value categories, international transactions, and store subscriptions need separate treatment.

For standard categories, the example rate is 13.6% up to $7,500 per item, with 2.35% on the portion above that amount. The final value fee base normally includes item price, buyer-paid shipping, and sales tax. A $0.30 per-order fee applies to orders up to $10, otherwise $0.40. Custom-rate mode applies a single percentage across the full amount and is an approximation.

Example: why buyer tax matters

If an item sells for $100 and eBay also collects $8 sales tax, the marketplace's percentage fee may be assessed on $108 rather than $100. The buyer's tax is not counted as revenue you keep. This calculator separates the two so your estimated profit is more realistic.

Before relying on a result

Fees may include promoted listing charges, optional upgrades, international surcharges, and different categories or account plans. An advertising rate entered here is an estimate; actual campaign fee rules may use another chargeable amount. Compare the result with the official eBay US fees.

eBay selling fee FAQs

How do I calculate eBay fees on a $100 sale?

Start with the $100 item price, then add any shipping charged to the buyer and applicable sales tax to estimate the percentage-fee base. Choose the relevant category rate, add the per-order charge, and subtract your shipping, product and optional advertising costs to estimate what you keep. Rates and thresholds depend on the transaction.

Does eBay charge fees on shipping?

For many US transactions, the final value fee calculation includes shipping charged to the buyer, even if you spend that money on postage. Enter buyer-paid shipping separately from your actual shipping expense to see the difference.

What is the difference between eBay fees and profit?

Marketplace fees are only one part of the cost. Net profit also depends on what you paid for the item, packing materials, postage and any promotions. If you need to work backward from a desired profit, try the target selling price calculator.

Is this an official eBay tool?

No. This independent calculator is intended for rough planning; it is not affiliated with or endorsed by eBay.
